When it came to finding the perfect voice to celebrate Black Music Month, engage AARP’s audience with an unforgettable experience, and deliver impactful education, we didn’t have to look far. MC Lyte was already a familiar partner with AARP, having joined their virtual dance party in 2021 during Black History Month and lending her voice during the 50th anniversary of hip hop celebrations. And if that wasn’t enough, MC Lyte’s latest release “Woman” was a collaboration with another incredible AARP/MAX alum, Raheem DeVaughn, making this partnership truly written in the stars! 🌟
Prepare yourself for an exclusive livestream concert that will leave you Lyte on your feet and heavy on the beat! MC Lyte is set to deliver a performance that promises to be as fierce and unforgettable as her legacy. So come join us and tune in for a night of legendary talent and powerful beats as MC Lyte takes the stage, celebrating the rich history and future of hip-hop.
MC Lyte, a fierce lyrical powerhouse from New York City, shattered glass ceilings in 1988 by becoming the first female rapper to drop a full solo album, "Lyte as a Rock." Her trailblazing didn’t stop there; she joined the supergroup Stop the Violence Movement and lent her voice to the groundbreaking single “Self Destruction,” which soared to the top of the Billboard Hot Rap Singles chart in 1989. Over the years, MC Lyte has collaborated with industry titans like Will Smith, Beyoncé, and Missy Elliott, cementing her status as a hip-hop legend. In 2013, her monumental contributions to the culture were recognized with the Icon Lifetime Achievement “I Am Hip Hop” award at the BET Hip Hop Awards. Beyond the mic, Lyte has proven her versatility with acting roles and her unwavering commitment to philanthropy through the Hip Hop Sisters Foundation, which provides scholarships to college students. Fast forward to 2024, and MC Lyte is back with a vengeance, releasing the powerful single “Woman,” a collaboration with Big Daddy Kane, Cheryl “Salt” James, and Raheem DeVaughn, reaffirming her indomitable presence in the rap game.
